Yang Style Tai Chi, Salisbury
This is a tai chi course run in weekly classes of sequential and progressive learning and includes a warmup set, main teaching session and finishes with student led practice with questions. It is based on Yang style Tai Chi.
If you want a much simpler tai chi-qigong exercise class without sequential learning, which is always open to beginners, we also run part of this class as a drop-in, from 6.30-7.15pm. Cost £6 per session.
Classes will run on our standard 5 session block system, but we also welcome beginners to a 45min Tai Chi Qigong warmup at the start of each session.
In 2018 we will begin teaching the partner form, which is an ideal vehicle for learning how to be sensitive to connections with another person - improving your ability to deal with difficult interactions in everyday life as well as improving your Tai Chi solo form work.

Why is partner work important in taiji?
Taijiquan, in its essence, is a partner activity. Traditionally speaking, solo forms and exercises are meant to prepare for two person work. While practitioners can learn and experience many positive results from solo work, far greater benefit comes from applying principles while in physical contact with another taiji player. It can fairly be said that without partner connection the essence of taiji is missing.
For various reasons partner work does not appeal to everyone and many enthusiasts have had unhappy experiences with taiji push-hands or martial applications work. The purpose of wuduan jue-shou or ‘sensing-hands’ is to open up a tactile dialogue which includes communication through touch, transformation of energy and movement through relaxation. By focusing attention on the basics of making and maintaining partner connection (rather than on competitive outcomes), jue-shou can help practitioners to transform what they have learned through solo work into a meaningful understanding of the art of taijiquan. Sensing-hands, as adopted by the 5 section program, is in fact authentic preparation for traditional taiji partner work.
Studying Yang Style with Longwater Tai Chi
We teach Yang style Tai Chi in a way that suits the more active student. The new classes and workshops will allow you to explore a full range of dynamic extension within the movements, whilst remaining safe and comfortable. They are ideal for those of you who are also interested in increasing your sensitivity and energy levels through respectful partner work.
Classes are based on the Five Section Taijiquan programme developed by Master Sam Masich. Whether you are just looking for an exercise class for fun and recreation, or something where you can strive for personal progress through mastery of the art, we will be there to encourage and support you.
Each session also includes a 15-20min student practice session when you can integrate the topics covered during the class, ask questions, or just work on something else you may be studying with us, to get our feedback.
We also welcome beginners to a 45min Tai Chi Qigong warmup at the start of each session which you can pay for as a single drop-in. You can then decide if you wish to join the main class when you feel ready to do so.
Classes will run on our standard 5 session block system, with payment at the beginning of each block. In order to give you the best price we cannot offer you a refund for non attendance - you can however pay a little more by the session if you know you will be away for some of the current block.
