Summer Tai Chi Workshop 2
Longwater Summer Workshops #2
This summer, in place of our annual 1 week retreat, we will be hosting 2 weekend workshops focusing on traditional Tai Chi (taijiquan) practices. This means that those of you who couldn't commit to the retreat in the past, due to time and financial constraints, would be able to enjoy some of the more advanced material we teach on such occasions. These two and a half day workshops will be linked in content, but taught in a way that will allow you to attend one, part of one or all of them to suit your schedule and budget. Knowledge of a Tai Chi form is a requirement for these workshops.
Each workshop will be based on solo hand form study, but will include an interactive component where we will work with partners. Drop in rates are available for the Friday afternoon (solo) and Sunday morning (partner) sessions.
Manifesting the 8 Energies of Taijiquan. Whilst continuing with some of our studies from the first workshop, we now explore how to integrate the original application qualities of Taijiquan into our form and make it real - as it was intended. These qualities are primarily expressed through the 8 energies of ward off, roll back, press, push, pluck, split, elbow and shoulder, and clearly expressed footwork.
5 Elements in the stance continuum. In support of the traditional approach to understanding and dealing with an incoming force (covered in the 1st summer workshop), it is also possible - and fun - to manifest the 5 elements of metal, water, wood, fire and earth to create the 'generative' and 'destructive' cycles of a partner interaction.
